  • What is Family Day Care?

Family Day Care is a national network of experienced childcare professionals, committed to providing a unique, flexible, family focused childcare experience for the families. Supported and guided by Family Day Care Australia (FDCA), the national Family Day Care body, and delivered locally through the East Brisbane Family Day Care Scheme coordination unit, Family Day Care offers a range of childcare options designed to meet the diverse needs of modern Australian families.

 

  • Who is East Brisbane Family Day Care?

East Brisbane Family Day Care is a member of Family Day Care Australia. We are a coordination unit consisting of of 2 Coordinators. We are specifically here to assist you and facilitate the operation of your own home-based childcare business to ensure your needs are met. We support you totally during the beginning stages, we walk step by step with you until you feel confident with your business and the children in your care.

Another benefit of East Brisbane Family Day Care is we can assist you with the set up depending on availability of necessary equipment such as cots, car seats and prams, which are available to you at no cost. Our Toy Librarian/Play Session Coordinator arranges fortnightly play sessions for you and your children. This is a wonderful way to meet other educator care providers and let your children interact and play with others in a friendly and safe environment.

 

  • What do I need before I get started? Costs?
    • Blue Card (we can provide you with and assist you with your application) $70
    • Medical Certificate
    • Senior First Aid Certificate approx $120 (renew CPR annually approx $50)
    • Public Liability Insurance $460-$600 annually
    • Supply East Brisbane Family Day Care with a copy of your resume
    • Complete our individualised information program
    • Comply with our home safety check requirements
    • Initial registration fee of $150 which covers cost of essential publications.

There are no yearly re-registration fees

Safety and well-being is an absolute priority for the children in care. All homes must comply with health and safety standards. There will be costs associated with starting up your Family Day Care business. Depending on the age of your home, there may be other costs such as fencing, glazing and other modifications to make your house safe for childcare.

 

  • Income and Finances

As a Family Day Carer, you are self-employed, so you will run your childcare service around your lifestyle. You set your own fees and we assist you in this process. Once you are up and running with Family Day Care, you can look forward to managing your own own business, your income and your work.

You may apply for an ABN and manage your own GST lodgments. the reward of being self-employed from home is you will have many tax advantages. We recommend that you seek ongoing advice from an accountant or tax specialist.

 

  • Business Management

While you will receive training, support and guidance in setting up and maintaining a successful business from East Brisbane Family Day Care Scheme, you are ultimately responsible for its running and ongoing administration - similar to any other small business operator. However, flexibility, convenience and independence are your greatest rewards in running your own business from home.

East Brisbane's Family Day Care proposition for care providers/educators is totally unique. Here at East Brisbane Family Day Care we help you with this side of your new business, including taxation information, timesheets and administration of government subsidies. The Family Day Care Association (FDC) also provides specific products to help you with paperwork, for example, a comprehensive tax guide for Educators and Government approved receipt books for parent payments.

You will need to make sure you are ready to take responsibility for your own own business and the management and administration that goes along with it. Becoming an Educator with Family Day Care means that whilst you are part of a national, leading, progressive team of professionals, you are also building your own business and experiencing a degree of autonomy, flexibility and support.
